I've never been one to care much about luxury brands. I've always been more interested in the art and culture surrounding them than the actual products. But I've always had a love for graffiti, pop culture, and taking ordinary things and making them my own.
Luxury Vandalism started with a simple idea. Take shopping bags from well-known luxury brands and paint on them. Nothing complicated. Just another surface to put some art on.I started collecting bags from Louis Vuitton, Tiffany & Co., MoMA, and The Warhol Museum, adding familiar characters, pop culture references, and whatever else came to mind. I liked the idea of mixing my artwork with these recognizable names and seeing how the two worked together.
To me, it's no different than painting on a canvas. The only difference is that these canvases already have someone else's name on them. I'm not trying to make luxury brands look bad or make some deep statement about consumerism. I just enjoy taking something familiar and turning it into something unexpected.
It's a little bit of pop culture, a little bit of graffiti, and a little bit of bad art.
